TENTH GENERATION



Melvin Neal LaViness was born on 20 Feb 1918 in Drumright, Creek Co., OK.  He appeared on the census in 1920 in Drumright, Creek Co., OK.  He was living in Apr 1928 in Drumright, Creek Co., OK.  He moved to Sarcoxie, MO between Apr 1928 and 1932.  Melvin went to Forrest School, Sarcoxie, MO in the 8th grade.  He graduated from Jackson Highschool, Lafayette, OH in 1936.  Melvin was president of his class when he graduated.

He was living in 1944 in Ada, Hardin Co., OH.  Melvin joined the Free and Accepted Masons, Lodge 344 in 1944.  He became Worshipful Master of the Ada Masonic Lodge in 1954.  Melvin helped establish the Charles R. Wilson Chapter, Order of DeMolay, which he served as Scribe Advisor and Dad Advisor.  Melvin was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star and supported the Order of Rainbow for Girls.

He was living in 1957 in Ada, Hardin Co., OH.  He was living in 1965 in Ada, Hardin Co., OH.  He resided at 2124 County Road 50 between 1970 and 1983 in Ada, Hardin Co., OH. 

He was an employed by the Conner Pipe Organ Co., the Ohio-Kentucky Mfg. Co., and sold insurance.  He was an employee of Westinghouse Corp. in 1983 in Lima, Allen Co., OH.  Melvin worked for Westinghouse Corp. for 33 years and was planning to retire on 1 Mar 1983.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in 1983.  Melvin enjoyed gardening and watching wild birds.  He also enjoyed being outdoors and traveling.  He died on 15 Feb 1983 in Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima, Allen Co., OH.  He was buried on 17 Feb 1983 in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada, Hardin Co., OH.

He married B. Whitacre.  Melvin Neal LaViness and B. Whitacre had four children.
